Stolen!

Will I never see this license plate again? It appears that the motorcycle era has come to an abrupt and disturbing end. That is, my fine vehicle was stolen in the middle of the night two days ago, and I'm not very confident in the abilities of myself or the local authorities to get it back. (Sigh.) Well, it was fun while it lasted. I don't regret anything, except for not selling that infernal contraption weeks ago like I had planned. Motorcycling in sub-freezing temperatures was no fun, anyway.

Hi.. just checked out your web site. It's a great read and you say most of the things that I have felt since moving to Xinjiang last February. (M&Ms have arrived here also out of the blue.) I live in Yili... I mean Yining.. I mean Gulja (whichever you feel is more politically correct). I'm working with VSO in the Teachers College. If you or any of your friends ( or anyone who speaks ENGLISH or actually ANYONE,... the desperation!!!! ooops) are passing through Yining again (referring to Almathy crossover...)just drop a line. The teachers college is next door to the main bus station. Thanks for passing an hour or 2 for me today, reading your blog. Bikes with legs is a common problem in Yili too, I'm afraid. Bird flu rumours here that yesterday it was 'just half hour from Yining city' although the news says it is still only in Xinyuan county.. about 4 hours away?? I'm veggie so no worries there. Be good, Ash
