Give proper respect to the Nang boys of the Railway District! They make the finest Uyghur bread in Korla. Last comment 10/23/07.

The Chinese seem to have an affinity for multicolored, music-synched waterfountains. Korla has two of 'em... this one's in the center of town in People's Square. Last comment 11/06/07.

Feng Fan Guanchang (Sail Square) along the Kong Que River is a great place to have a beer before dinner. Last comment 09/17/07.

Down at the end of Bositeng Lu lies the center of Uyghur nightlife in Korla. My buddy here serves a supposedly delicious (I've never tried it) concoction made from all the delicious interior parts of a sheep.

Once I'd taken a picture of her father, my friend's daughter (left) wanted to have her picture taken, too. Why can't kids stay still for 3 seconds? Cute little Uyghur girls, though. Last comment 09/30/07.

Hong Fan Qu is Korla's most rockin' and cheezy disco. I do have to admit, however, that I enjoy the dancing girls. (Yes, she's wearing clothes!)

William, David, and Zoe's last trip to Hong Fan Qu was cause for some of us to drunkenly mount the stage and shake our booties. I took this shot to prove that we'd been up there... Last comment 07/22/05.

Yurt party! William, David, and Zoe threw a going-away party for themselves in a Mongol yurt with karaoke. Damn good fun. (That's our Uyghur friend, Kambiyer, dancing in the middle.)

Kaboom! We had an awesome lightning storm a few days ago (mid-July) when I snapped this photo. I'd never seen that much lightning... it was coming about every two seconds for about two hours.

Long Shan (Dragon Mountain) is a little hill above Korla with a little amusement park on top. It's nothing great, but the pengpengche (bumper cars) are pretty good fun. Last comment 09/02/07.

One of those spinny rocket rides that small kids are fond of, up on Long Shan. Last comment 09/02/07.
