These graves are part of a famous Uyghur story. A long time ago, there was a princess, Tzuohla, who loved a simple shepherd, Tayir, much to her father's dismay. Her father, the king, arranged for her to marry a prince, so she ran off on a horse with her lover. The king sent troops to pursue them, and while crossing over these mountains they fell to their deaths.
