I was pretty amazed to find a very well stocked supermarket (well, hypermarket really) in Korla. The two major omissions from the shelves: butter and cheese. I suppose I can do without. I took this photo because I recognized none of these meat products. Well, the one with the horse on the package was pretty clear.

The view from our livingroom window...the Chinese seem to have towers like this sprinkled all over the place in western towns and cities. I suspect it's a man-made military highground. I've never seen anyone up there, however.

Looking south from the apartment towards an "old" section of Korla (read "slum"). I'm pretty sure the factory-looking building on the right is a crematorium.
